Hi, we are Sugar Toof!

Sugar Toof isn’t just a bakery. It’s a comeback story baked with heart, resilience, passion and community love.

When our old storefront (formerly Sunflower Bakery) was lost in the plaza fire, it felt like years of hard work and memories went up in smoke. It wasn’t huge, thank goodness, but because the building wasn’t kept up to code, the whole plaza was forced to shut down.

At that time, I (Kate) was still on maternity leave with our baby Zeno, in full “new-mom” mode, thinking that our biggest challenge was only the sleepless nights and diaper duty…I would’ve never thought that rebuilding a business from scratch would be added to our list.

A month later, after waiting for promises of help that never came, the landlord decided to close the chapter entirely and evict all the tenants. And just like that, everything we worked for was gone.

Despite all that and even though it seems very difficult at first, we decided to look at it from a different perspective. And here’s the thing about starting from zero, it gives you a whole new space to dream again.✨

That season, as painful and uncertain as it was, became our blessing in disguise. It gave Joe and I the time to be fully present with our son Zeno, to slow down, to heal, and to imagine something even better than what we lost.

And that “something better” became Sugar Toof Bakery & Café—a brighter, bolder, and even more heartfelt space that honors our Filipino-Italian roots while embracing a new chapter. Every cake, every empanada, every halo-halo, every cup of coffee is a reminder that beautiful things can bloom again, even after a loss.. a reminder that sometimes life has to knock you down first so you can rise again, stronger and better.

From Joe, Zeno and I, we want to thank you for being part of our story and our journey. Here’s to second chances, chasing dreams and happily ever afters.✨
